Project Sport
My project presents the exchange between two particular universes, each with its own uses and codes. Sportswear worn by the bad boy/delinquent, and the flower. Nowadays, links between fashion and sports fields are increasing in the ready-to-wear, but also in haute couture, a selective environment difficult to access. Big houses and stars are now collaborating with big brands like Puma, Adidas, Nike…
By anchoring itself in this context, my approach seeks to revisit the prejudices that one may have: I want to give a new meaning to men’s sportswear, often carried in sensitive neighbourhoods. With the use of the flower, declined both as a motif but also as an accessory, I aim to disrupt and renew the classic sportswear (hoodie, jogging, sneakers). By referring to the flower's history, through the tapestry and the ceremonial costume, this association becomes a singular creation between past and present. Art goes into the street as much as the street inspires fashion.
The virility, the familiarity of thugs contrasts with the elegance, the solemn and decorative aspect of the flower. I would like to show that these two universes do not fit into categories, there's a part of feminine in the masculine and a part of masculine in the feminine, we must just look beyond appearances. The urban culture I got inspiration from (rap, hip-hop), is highlighted by the vegetal pattern: it's the rise of a underprivileged-targeted wardrobe who will become a real part of fashion.
