Project Ailleurs -Aujourd'hui
The project « Ailleurs Aujourd'hui » is inspired by the Yao tribe culture (China). First of all, we worked on the contrast between a basic garment like the working fit (in reference to the Chinese military uniform, linked with the indigo tunic) which shows a minimalist aesthetic, rational and geometric facing the predominant use of ornaments such as pompoms, flocks of all kinds of the Yao community. Two concepts face each other: a modern wardrobe illustrated by the uniformity and the ''passe-partout'' side, and a much more traditional and artisanal process, typical of the studied population. Then, we wanted to bring the idea of functional clothing and accessories that allows to carry and wear various things, like our everyday objects among others. Therefore, we want to reuse some processes from the transport of object field: pockets, bags, closure clips, zipper, straps...
Finally, this project is an opportunity for us to convey a more political message about the repressive and dictatorial system of China and against which artists risk their lives, like the sculptor Wei Wei. Thus, the sketches bring an idea of freedom, a desire to escape bounds and constraints, expressed by certain shapes and methods like volumes exceeding, escaping and amplifying the body, the add of relief or notions such as accumulation, overlay and suspension.
