Project Writing(s)
Letter(s) to the missing one -Tribute to the beloved
My project is based on the philosophic fact that scripture is made at a distance, far from the recipient. In verbal and written communication, we speak to missing people. Jacques Derrida believed that "when we speak to someone, it's like writing a letter to a missing person". Thus, this theme immediately made me want to explore the concept of love letters that allow us to keep from departing and oblivion, to materialize the absent beloved in letters and find a space of expression. It’s like a remedy, a way to keep going the love story. With the current context of distancing and increased virtual contacts, poetry loses its meaning, but postcards and letters bring up a new one by a writing carried and conditioned by the absence of the other. We can ask ourselves about the possibility to communicate despite the distance, how the garment can convey a message, to whisper, to proclaim, to scream love, and be a way to express our feelings by the transfer on textile.
We see in my project's atmosphere this intimate side which deals with memory and poetry about romantic relationships, carried by scripture. By inserting fragments of scripts, I aim to question our relationship to writing, I’d like to rediscover the beauty of the language in correspondence. The purpose of my project is to highlight a writing that composes and makes clothing in resonance with the body. This element will make a difference, the fabric will be a metaphor of the paper on which ink is applied to write. The material becomes an immaculate support where textual - textile - line is the trail. Supported by timeless wardrobe around archetypes, revisited by subtle technical details, I will show intimacy and sensuality through the dialogue between the fabrics as a metaphor for the love story. It’s a manifest project, targetted to people who like art and culture, who wish to express themselves and their emotions through this tribute to litterature, an ode to love.
FIRST EXPERIMENTATIONS
I built up my graduation project on the idea of the blank page, silent scripture, white scripture, the notion of seeing beyond, between real and unreal, visible and invisible.
THOROUGH EXPERIMENTATIONS
The notion of absence came to encompass all of my work. I was interested in writing the absence, writing the silence, and in particular the absence of the other and its physical materialization. The absence is felt stronger when it concerns loved ones, and mainly the lover. Therefore, I led my project towards writing to the absent, carried by studies of a well-known literary medias, correspondence and love letters. These experiments made in lockdown summarize my plastic, graphic and photographic mind around this notion of absence, and its bond with epistolary scripture that seek to abolish time and distance. I emphasized the relationship to the body and the intimacy: a poetic and personal research about the period that I lived.
